What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of summer? For many, it’s the smell of a campfire and fond memories of roasting marshmallows over an open flame. We love that memory and that’s why we’re showing you how to build a campfire.
Creating a campfire isn’t too difficult, but it requires some safety precautions. Things should also be done step by step. The infographic below will take you through the proper order so that you can have a safe experience.
A couple safety tips to emphasize. First, don’t transport firewood. Instead, purchase or collect it at your camping location. Transporting firewood between areas can spread invasive insects that destroy trees, like the emerald ash borer.
Second, always put out and clear the area after a campfire. You should never leave a fire to burn out. Use water to fully extinguish the fire, then scatter the ashes. And don’t forget to pack out your trash! You shouldn’t try and burn plastic, Styrofoam, and cans. It’s harmful to your health and the local habitat.
