2. Wade House Historic Site
While closed for 2021, the Wade House Historic Site is a gorgeous trove of historical items. Here, you’ll see how the world lived before planes, trains, and automobiles. When open, you can tour a carriage house, 19th century inn, and blacksmith shop at this museum.
3. Kettle Moraine Forest
One of the best attractions near Fond du Lac is the Kettle Moraine Forest. This state-managed preserve is divided into northern and southern sections. The northern unit is closest to Fond du Lac East/Kettle Moraine KOA.
In the ancient Kettle Moraine Forest, you’ll find the rugged Ice Age Trail, glacial rock formations, and even freshwater beaches. Plus, the forest has mountain bike trails and many acres of prairies and forests. This is a natural space unlike any other in Wisconsin.
4. Hearthstone Historic House Museum
In the city of Appleton lies the Hearthstone Historic House Museum. In 1882, the Hearthstone House became the first private residence to be illuminated by hydroelectricity. This was just two weeks after the original Edison system began operating in New York City!
Today, the Hearthstone Historic House has been restored and converted to a museum. Come take a tour and witness the stunning Victorian architecture.
