This New England state has become renowned for its fine, fresh lobster dishes, served locally and around the U.S. And if you visit during Maine lobster season, you’ll be able to experience this annual tradition for yourself.

Although Maine lobsters can be fished for year-round, late summer and early fall is when the season really takes off. Lobster cruises are very popular during this time of year because they offer a unique opportunity to participate in the process with licensed Maine fishermen.

Just 30 minutes north of Old Orchard Beach, you’ll find Lucky Catch Cruises in Portland. With Lucky Catch, you’ll sail through the Casco Bay and help haul up the traps with the crew. If sightseeing is more your thing, take in unbelievable views of the historic lighthouses and sunbathing seals.

If you head 20 miles south to Kennebunkport, you can step aboard the Rugosa. This Downeast-style wooden boat offers a great way to experience lobstering in Maine. Plus, the Rugosa trip is full of lobstering education, making it great for those visiting The Pine Tree State.

Best Maine Lobster Restaurants

Not everyone wants to hit the open waters. If boats make you a little green around the gills, you can enjoy these crustaceans on land with an amazing lobster dinner. And there are some great lobster shacks near our Maine RV campgrounds.

Bayley’s Lobster Pound is just four miles up the coast from Old Orchard Beach in Scarborough. Known as the birthplace of the lobster roll, Bayley’s features a restaurant right on the coast. Plus, Bayley’s is a wholesale lobster retailer, allowing you to purchase lobster to prepare for yourself.

Down along the Kennebunk River is the Clam Shack. This local establishment may look humble, but it serves one of the state’s most critically-acclaimed lobster rolls. And if you’re looking to hit two places in the same day, Nunan’s Lobster Hut isn’t far away and is known for simple, no-frills lobster dinners. You really can’t wrong with Maine lobster!

To experience the best of lobstering in Maine, you’ll want a central location. And with four resorts located in Old Orchard Beach, Sun is always close to all the action. With a different experience offered at each location, there’s an option that’s just right for your getaway. Each location also has a public trolley stop that will take you to and from the attraction of Old Orchard Beach.

Spanning 90 acres, Wild Acres RV Resort and Campground is our largest resort in Old Orchard Beach. Hid’n Pines RV Resort is also located nearby and features a prime location that’s near shopping outlets, an 18-hole miniature golf course and plenty of eateries.

Just outside of Old Orchard Beach in the quaint town of Saco is Saco/Old Orchard Beach KOA. Here, you’ll find great on-site amenities, including the Merry Moose Café, famous for its Maine blueberry flapjacks. Less than a minute from this KOA is Funtown Splashtown U.S.A., a family-friendly attraction providing plenty of excitement.
