MLB Spring Training is Double the Fun in Fort Myers!

Baseball Stadium ImageSpring training for Major League Baseball (MLB) is in full swing in Fort Myers, Florida – a proud tradition in this area since 1991 when Hammond Stadium and the Lee County Sports Complex were built for the Minnesota Twins. Each year, hundreds of baseball fans flock to this area be a part of the precursor to American’s pastime.

For Twins fans, there’s nothing sweeter than walking up the palm tree lined sidewalk leading up to the ballpark to watch their beloved boys in action. Hammond Stadium’s façade is reminiscent of Louiville’s Churchill Downs, the Thoroughbred racetrack famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby, with all the streets in the sports complex named for Twins greats. A waterfall and fountain adorn the outside of the main gate and a second water fountain can be found in right field to entertain fans.

Less than ten miles away, just on the outskirts of Fort Myers, is JetBlue Park at Fenway South, home to the Boston Red Sox during their Florida spring training. This facility, built in 2012, became the new spring training home for the Boston Red Sox when the ballpark at the City of Palms became impossible to expand further during the Red Sox Nation’s continued booming period.

This change in scenery, however, has done little to deter the momentum of this team, who now reap the benefits of training at a more modern ballpark. Fans that make their way down to partake in this magical time of year can enjoy berm seating, perfect for spring training, and a signature white canopy that provides shade and protection from the hot Florida sunshine.

Tickets for spring training tickets can be purchased online from sources like StubHub and Ticketmaster or fans can buy them directly from the ballparks. Treat yourself to a Fort Myers getaway this March and discover all the excitement of this very special time of year.
