Roll out the red carpet because the 2016 Florida Strawberry Festival is almost here!
From March 3-13, 2016, Plant City will be brimming with guests from all over the state of Florida and beyond to enjoy award-winning music artists, riveting agriculture and livestock demonstrations, thrilling fair rides, craft fair shopping and, of course, juicy red strawberries!
Entertainment at the Wish Farms Soundstage
The popularity of the Florida Strawberry Festival has attracted several popular American country music artists to the Wish Farms Soundstage this year including New Artist of the Year CMA Award winner, Cole Swindell!
Cole Swindell, known for his platinum certified mega hit, “Chillin’ It” and “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey,” will be sharing the stage with other country music stars including Josh Turner, Big & Rich, Trace Adkins, Martina McBride, The Band Perry, LONESTAR, Merle Haggard, and Tanya Tucker.
While country music will have your boots stomping on most of evenings, there is a musical artist for everyone’s taste in the lineup. Christian rapper, Lecrae will be teaming up with 80’s hair band Cheap Trick to bring beats and drums to tantalize everyone’s ears! Other artists include echosmith, Casting Crowns, Mickey Gilley, Donny and Marie Osmond, Charlie Wilson, and Dick Fox’s Golden Boys starring Franking Avalon, Fabian & Bobby Rydell.
Agriculture & Livestock
The Florida Strawberry Festival was created in 1930 by a local group of volunteers to celebrate the heaping harvest of strawberries and educate their community of the process it takes to bring these luscious berries to market.
The annual festival aims to keep the spirit of education and celebration alive each year with the presentation of livestock, strawberry harvest and pioneer skill demonstrations, and every farm animal exhibit you can imagine! After admiring the animals and the produce, you’ll want to witness the Robinsons Racing Pigs – sip on some Netterfield’s lemonade and cheer on your favorite piggy!
You can’t visit the 2016 Florida Strawberry Festival without trying the famous strawberry shortcake. Made from either a biscuit or a small pound cake, strawberry shortcake is best served with a mound of fresh-cut strawberries and a colossal spoonful of whipped cream – sprinkle a little bit of granulated sugar on top for an extra sweet touch.
If shortcake isn’t your dessert of choice, there are plenty of other strawberry-themed treats to choose from including strawberry funnel cake cookies, strawberry milkshakes, chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry jam and even a deep fried stick of strawberry butter!
Sugary sweets are not your only option to enjoy strawberries at the festival. Tempt your taste buds with a strawberry hamburger – a juicy patty fried on a griddle, topped with crumbles of a strawberry cookie, sandwiched between two pieces of French toast and topped with strawberries!
